I laughed to myself, when I looked up the word "freelance" in my favourite old dictionary (Chambers's Twentieth Century Dictionary – 1943)
Freelance, one of the mercenary knights and men-at-arms who after the Crusades wandered about Europe: an unattached journalist, politician, etc.
I have never had a 9 – 5 job, or worked in a formal environment, I have always been freelance, a Ronin, in my journey of life. I have never been able to join a group, an organisation, or a formal Religion, because it meant I would have to subject myself to their rules, their politics, and would not have allowed me to freely question. I even find myself itching if I have to follow a recipe exactly. I immediately want to make it my own. For me nothing is too sacred or too mundane to question, to explore the values of.
Now as far as I am concerned, Politics is the biggest waste of time and money, and also threat to life, on this planet, yet, you will find it some form in every formally constituted association of humans. Politics always involves pussy-footing around egos, and in the process loosing the merits of real practical issues, and never coming up with real solutions. I have often wondered why important decisions, that influence the lives of millions, the future of us as a speci, our planet, made by so-called intelligent people, with the advice of the world's wise men and women, in every human endevour , at their disposal, could be so, quite frankly, er ... stupid, so short-sighted. Look no further than politics. The answers to the world's problems are known, but lack implementation, because we have to pussy-foot around egos.
In my country, (South Africa) a non-violent solution was only found, because we had leaders who wereprepared to put egos, and the need for revenge, aside, and saw that the love and health of the whole was more important than individual egos.

For most of my life, my searches for answers have been on my own, without the dictation of "authorities." From time to time, I did meet up with groups in the process of wanting to learn more about something particular, but never for long. I was shocked, that even what I would have thought would be the most spiritual of people, also succomb to politics. "Who is the most enlightened etc."
In my blog, I will be looking at all aspects of influence on human life, from as non-judgemental a perspective as is humanly possible. However, I am still an individual, and this is my personal window on the world, and therefore, I will include articles by other writers, that I think can better help us evaluate the choices open to us. I also welcome any input from interested individuals.
We live in a world that is changing so fast, so radically, that we have to learn, as someone put it, "To dance on a flying carpet."
"No warrior runs away from his challenges, but conversely, a warrior also chooses his battles. It is senseless to fight a battle in which there are no desired stakes." - Theuns Mares
We do not change easily unless we see that there is a benifit in it for us, and then even so ... We are afraid of the discomfort of change. However, life is change, and if we wish to live fully in a changing world, we must embrace change courageously and practically
My aim in life is the Alchemical Hieros Gamos (Sacred Marriage) both within and without of me. As a marriage always involves relationships, my focus is very much on relationships, but not just in the limited understanding of it.
" A shaman is a healer of relationships: between mind and body, between people, between people and circumstances, between humans and Nature, and between matter and spirit." - Serge Kahili King
Relationships are the basis of our existence. Relationship is not just between two people but it is every interaction that happens between anything. To begin with I have a relationship with myself. This is the primary relationship that you have throughout your life. This relationship affects and colours every other relationship you have. Therefore the process of individuation is important for me and the basis of my perspective on life.
